German 'red light' icon dies in Mauritius

One of Germany’s ‘red light’ icons, Bernd Gißke, has reportedly died in Mauritius.

The death of the “brothel king of Erfurt” has been announced by German publication BILD.

“From the beginning of the 1990s, he shaped the Erfurt red light scene like no other,” it reported.

Erfut is one of the oldest settlements in Germany, located about 250kms from Frankfurt.

“He has now died in Mauritius at the age of 66. This was confirmed by his lawyer,” BILD said.

Family and friends mourn Gißke, who went from being a simple waiter to becoming a brothel boss. In 1990, Gißke opened the “Saline” club, which reportedly still exists today.

BILD added that Gißke lived partly on Mauritius. “Out of consideration for his family, the exact cause of death was not disclosed.”
