Ex-CWA boss arrested under Prevention of Corruption Act
The secretary general of the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) and former General Manager of the Central Water Authority (CWA), Yousouf Ismaël, has been arrested by the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) on Tuesday.
His arrest comes in the wake of an investigation into a Rs100 million contract for the replacement of water pipes during his tenure as GM of the state-owned organisation.
Defi Media reported that the said contract was awarded in 2017 allegedly against legal advice.
Yousouf Ismaël will reportedly be charged under article 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act (PoCA), ie “Public official using his office for gratification.”
After three years at the CWA, Yousouf Ismaël joined the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry as Secretary General in 2020.
