Neighbouring countries to close borders to Mauritius?

Madagascar could suspend commercial flights to Mauritius as from 27 November in the wake of the explosion of COVID-19 cases.

While the option was discussed by the Malagasy cabinet on 17 November, the decision is yet to be finalised.

Commercial flights had resumed Madagascar on October 23, but questions have been raising after two passengers were reportedly tested positive after flying back from Mauritius.

L’Express cited several media in Reunion Island as reporting that Mauritius, a popular holiday destination for Reunion Islanders, has been classified as “orange zone” by the French authorities.

“In the event Mauritius goes red, strict travel measures will be put in place. Closing borders with Mauritius could be an option,” a senior government official was quoted as saying.
