831 Mauritian children tested positive for COVID-19 since March

Some 831 children aged between 5 and 12 have been tested positive for COVID-19 since March this year, representing on average more than 100 children tested positive every month for the last eight months.

Among them, at least five have reportedly died due to complications linked to the virus.

The shocking figures were just revealed by Health Minister Dr Kailesh Jagutpal in Parliament, in reply to a question from Labour MP Ritesh Ramful.

Dr Jagutpal said that, so far, 74 children have been admitted in hospitals after being tested positive.

Some 139 people were tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, Le Mauricien newspaper reported.

It also announced the death of 45 people during the last 48 hours.
