It’s the talk of the town. 18-month-old baby girl Myrah Waiza Burkuth is the youngest COVID-19 victim.

She reportedly passed away at Dr A.G Jeetoo hospital in Port-Louis on Thursday.

“Four PCR tests were negative. But they said she died because of COVID,” the father, Yashine Burkuth, was quoted as telling Le Mauricien newspaper.

Little Myrah was suffering from a rare disease – the ‘Cornelia de Lange syndrome’ – and also reportedly had heart problems.

She was meant to travel to India for treatment. However, she got fever and her condition started to deteriorate rapidly.

“PRC tests were all negative since she arrived at the hospital,” her father related to Le Mauricien.

The parents were subsequently informed that the little girl had been admitted to intensive care.

“She had heart problems, but they told me her lungs had been infected.”

Myrah passed away on Thursday. Her death was attributed to ‘Covid Pneumonia’.
