Mauritius launches a Digital Health Pass as vaccination requirements increase

As from October 1, 2021, Mauritius has rolled out the Digital Health Pass as proof that residents have been vaccinated against COVID-19.

Those who have received the jabs will be able to download their Digital Passes on the BeSafeMoris and Mokloud platforms.

The digital pass system could be used to show vaccination status to facilitate travel, access to establishments, gatherings and other forms of activity, similar to how it is used in some other countries around the world.

Businesses will be able to verify the authenticity of digital “vaccine cards” by scanning a QR code on them using the BeSafeMoris App.

To obtain your digital pass, go to the BeSafeMoris website and click on “pass” then insert your identity card or passport number and your telephone number.

You will receive a one-time password (OTP) on your phone number, insert it where indicated on the application and click on “verify”.

You will receive your vaccination card and a QR code, with the possibility of viewing it in PDF format. It can also have it printed.

You may even scan someone else’s QR code to verify the authenticity of the card.

Nearly 700,000 Mauritians have already downloaded the BeSafeMoris application available on Android and in a few days on the Apps Store.

As of today, vaccination is compulsory for the public and staff of hotels, sports complexes and gymnasiums.

As from October 15, vaccination will be compulsory for employees and the public to have access to cinemas, theaters, hairdressing salons among others.
