'No one trusts official figures anymore', says Bodha

These were the words of Nando Bodha (Ralliement Mauricien) as he cast doubt on the number of positive cases of COVID-19 released by the Ministry of Health.

Claiming that the health system is on the point of breakdown, Bodha has urged the authorities to predict when Mauritius is expected to hit the peak of the pandemic and to warn the public accordingly.

He said that the government suffers from a “serious of deficit of integrity, morality and transparency – all coupled with shocking incompetence at all levels.” A fresh start, he claimed, is essential.

Other opposition MPs and parties continue to as critical towards the government.

Opposition Leader Xavier Duval blasted the government for “risking the lives of 1.3million people for the sake of 6,000 travellers.” He was referring the number of tourists who came to Mauritius despite the upsurge of COVID-19 cases.

Labour MP Dr Arvin Boolell claimed the government is “hiding critical information” about the COVID-19 situation and “a long list” of scandals. “Pravind Jugnauth is desperate and distraught.”
