Vishal Shibchurn, who is accused of having assaulted a family in Vacoas and kidnapped a family member, has been arrested.

The suspect, said to be the brother-in- law of a current minister, appeared before the Curepipe Court.

Police have objected to be released on parole, Le Mauricien reported.

A 53-year-old woman has accused Shibchurn and other people to have assaulted her and her husband, ransacked her house and cars and kidnapped her son.

Shibchurn, on conditional release after previous assault cases, has denied the allegations.

It’s the fifth charge of assault against Shibchurn.

He was arrested in January over similar charges of assault, kidnapping and torture. He was allowed to go after questioning by the Central Criminal Investigation Division (Photo).
