Speaker confirms that ''derogatory words had in fact been uttered."

The Speaker of the National Assembly, Sooroojdev Phokeer, has confirmed that “according to video footage, derogatory words had in fact been uttered.”

He was referring to allegations that Gender Equality Minister Kalpana Koonjoo-Shah had been heard swearing during parliamentary works.

“However, it was not possible to identify the person. It was deemed appropriate to seek and obtain the expertise of the Police Cybercrime Unit for assistance in this matter. As soon as I have the expert’s conclusions, I will report on the matter,” the Speaker was quoted as saying in Le Mauricien.
