Pressure from leasing companies: Settle your bills now!

Those who haven’t worked for months due to a paralysed tourism have now been hit with reminders from Leasing companies urging to settle the monthly installment for their vehicles.

The Tourism Contract Car Owners Association told Defi that leasing companies are ignoring the downturn in business and their appeals for moratoriums. “Instead, we are being summoned to settle outstanding rentals together with penalty interests, failing which they will claim immediate repossession of the vehicles.”

The Tourist Association Bus Owners Association also complained that they are receiving threats for their vehicles to be seized “even though the country is in lockdown.”

The Ministry of Finance was reportedly informed and invited to intervene on the situation. In vain.
