2 Leaked Cambridge Exam Papers Spark Chaos for Students Across 3 Different Continents

Candidates sitting for their ‘A’ Level examinations this June face a mandatory resit after a widespread security breach resulted in the leaking of a mathematics paper.

Cambridge Assessment International Education confirmed that the Mathematics Paper 1 (9709/12) has been cancelled following the detection of the leak.

Students affected by the cancellation are now required to sit for a new examination scheduled for 9 June.

No “Special Consideration”

Ashok Goonjar, Principal Examination Officer at the Mauritius Examinations Syndicate (MES), stated that Cambridge has explicitly ruled out “special consideration” for those impacted by the rescheduling.

This means students must achieve their marks based solely on the June resit, with no adjustments made for the disruption caused by the leak.

Second Paper Under Investigation

The integrity of a second examination is also being questioned. Concerns have been raised regarding the Statistics Paper 5 (9709/52), which candidates completed last Tuesday.

The MES is currently awaiting further clarification from Cambridge to determine whether this paper will also be invalidated or if alternative measures will be taken.

An International Security Breach

According to Mr Goonjar, the source of the leak did not originate within Mauritius.

The breach is described as international in scope, with Cambridge’s ongoing investigation focusing on several regions, including:

  • Europe
  • Africa
  • Pakistan

The June ‘O’ and ‘A’ Level session continues amidst the investigation, as authorities work to secure the remaining examination cycle.
