100s Join Curepipe Awareness Walk Marking World Autism Awareness Day April 2
Hundreds of citizens took to the streets of Curepipe this Thursday, 2 April, to mark World Autism Awareness Day, joining a mobilised effort to foster a more inclusive society.
The “Autism Awareness Walk,” organised by the association Autisme Maurice this Thursday, 2 April 2026, saw a significant turnout from families, educators, and the general public, all united under a common cause of increasing national understanding of autism.
A Path to Inclusion
The event commenced at Sainte-Hélène Church at 9:15 am. From there, a procession of participants marched through the heart of the town, concluding their journey at the Curepipe Town Hall.
The march served as a visual demonstration of solidarity, bringing together:
- Families and professionals working within the sector.
- Students and educators from various local colleges.
- Community stakeholders and members of the public.
Education at the Town Hall
Following the walk, the focus shifted to education. An awareness session was hosted at the Hôtel de Ville, designed to provide the public with deeper insights into the condition.
Organisers described the day as both “educational and unifying,” highlighting the vital role of collective citizen action in promoting social integration.
By involving schools and various professional bodies, Autisme Maurice aimed to ensure the message of inclusion reached a broad cross-section of the Mauritian community.
