10 Suspects Hunted As Airport Cannabis Haul Exposes Corrupt Police Drug Network

A sophisticated drug smuggling ring involving police officers and a former prison guard has been exposed following the seizure of 16kg of cannabis and hashish at Plaisance Airport.

The Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) is currently investigating ten suspects in connection with the haul, which was discovered abandoned on a luggage carousel following a flight from Paris on 23 March.

What initially appeared to be a routine seizure has uncovered a structured network allegedly infiltrated by members of the security forces.

The Airport Operation

The investigation centres on French national Lisa Lily Ilona Roman, who is suspected of acting as a “mule.”

Detectives believe she was briefed to abandon her drug-laden suitcase after fearing detection, instead or grabbing a nearly identical bag belonging to a French tourist couple to clear customs.

CCTV footage from the immigration hall reportedly shows Constable Neeraj Pagoo, an ADSU officer on duty at the time, maintaining “supported eye contact” with Ms Roman.

Investigators allege the officer effectively “escorted her with his eyes” from her arrival until she exited the terminal and entered a waiting Honda Fit.

Key Figures and Infrastructure

Among those identified as high-value targets is Oumeshlall Ramsurrun, a former prison guard.

Ramsurrun is already known to authorities for his alleged links to the “Carnet Laboutik” case involving convicted drug kingpin Peroomal Veeren.

The police net has also widened to include:

  • Constable Akash Hurruck and Constable Neeraj Pagoo: Serving officers under suspicion of connivance.
  • Douveersingh Bhujun and Dwishal Matai: Residents of La Rosa currently in detention. They are accused of setting fire to the getaway vehicle, which was found charred in a southern sugarcane field to erase evidence.
  • Yadhav Luckhun: A 31-year-old also detained as part of the expanding inquiry.

A Calculated Network

The ADSU maintains that the operation was meticulously planned. After Ms Roman successfully exited the airport, the network moved to destroy logistical traces by torching the transport vehicle.

However, the subsequent arrests of the recovery team—Bhujun and Matai—provided the breakthrough needed to trace the hierarchy back to Luckhun and Ramsurrun.

Authorities believe they have yet to uncover the full extent of this structured criminal enterprise.
