Mauritius Labour Party calls for counting of votes on Election Day

Former PM and the leader of the Labour Party Dr Navin Ramgoolam has called for the counting of votes on the same day at the next general elections.

Speaking at the commemoration of the 122nd anniversary of the birth of Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, the son said he has invited international organizations to oversee the elections.

“I’m warning them. You saw what happened during the elections. If this happens again, we can say ‘bye’ to our freedom and democracy.”

The party’s newly elected Secretary General, Ritesh Ramphul, argued that the rejuvenation of the party has started.

“It is the dynamism of young people and the wisdom of seniors that will bring the Labour Party back in power. Else, the country will end up like Sri Lanka .”
