Labour Party secretary resigns after learning she won't be reappointed

In what is being considered as a major political development, former MP Kalyanee Juggoo has slammed the door to the Labour Party.

She confirmed to the press as having submitted her resignation letter after reportedly having learned that she would no longer be the Secretary General of the party.

Kalyanee Juggoo joined the Labour Party in 1986 and was elected MP twice in Constituency No. 4 (Port-Louis Nord/Montagne-Longue) in 2005 and 2010. Defeated in the 2014 elections, she was not a candidate in the 2019 elections.

She was the Labour Party’s first female Secretary General, a role she held for 13 years.

On her resignation, she reportedly hinted that the move was sparked by the “lack of respect and consideration” towards her.

She claimed she does not intend to give up on politics and is expected to hold a press conference this Thursday.

The Labour Party has not commented on the resignation.
