Disunited opposition: Laurette resigns, protests rallies cancelled
In August 2020, Laurette led one of the most important public protests in Mauritius

Social activist Bruneau Laurette has resigned from the Linion Pep Morisien (LPM), a party he helped create together with several extra-parliamentary organisations.

The announcement was made in front of party executives during a rally on Friday night, claiming that he “does not want to die in a party that does not share the same vision”.

The party leadership had reportedly accused him of announcing certain activities without putting them in the loop.

Laurette’s departure comes amid increasingly strained relations among opposition parties.

After two much-hyped public demonstrations were postponed/cancelled, the disunited opposition is now struggling to agree as to whether a public rally is “really going to be effective”.
