Vital water taken off the shelves, QBL share price drops by 5 cents

The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Commerce have jointly agreed with Quality Beverages Ltd (QBL) that the sale of Vital bottled water will be suspended pending the results of new microbiological tests.

Analyzes are being carried out by the Central Health Laboratory after the Mauritius Standards Bureau (MSB) discovered that Vital water contained several bacteria – therefore unfit for consumption.

During the analyses of samples from 1.5L and 18.9L fountains conducted on June 9, MSB analysts reportedly detected coliforms, pseudomonas aeruginosa and eschenririchia coli, a group of bacteria that can cause infections such as pneumonia.

In a joint Statement issued by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Commerce on Saturday June 25, they said that the suspension will only be lifted after the clearance from the Ministry of Health.

At the close of trading on Friday 23 June, 5,800 shares of Quality Beverages Ltd were sold on the Stock Exchange of Mauritius, bringing its share price down by Rs0.05, from Rs13.10 to Rs13.05.
