Employees of Mauritius casino plan hunger strike

The management of the Casinos of Mauritius has been told to reinstate eight employees by July 14. Else, these employees will go on a hunger strike.

They defended themselves against allegations of having helped a client of the Casino du Domaine Les Pailles to pocket Rs 1.2 million without paying taxes, amounting to Rs 120,000, or 10% of the win.

However, their resignation letters reportedly said they were terminated for “poor performance”.

According to Defi Media, negotiator Jack Bizlall said he would join the hunger strike.

The Casinos Employees Union has urged the State Investment Corporation to settle this dispute through the Mediation Commission of the Ministry of Labour.
