Protests in front of PMO, MBC over gaffes against Catholic Church

The Affirmative Action movement is still awaiting for official explanations from the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) after the national broadcaster unceremoniously edited part of the Christmas message of Mauritius Cardinal Maurice Piat.

Affirmative Action held two simultaneous peaceful demonstrations in front of the MBC headquarters in Moka and the Prime Minister’s Office in Port Louis, l’Express reported.

Three months after the incident, official explanations and sanctions are still awaited.

MBC Director had earlier stated that the employee who edited the message had been reprimanded.

However, he had refrained from disclosing the nature of the reprimand, stating that it was an ‘internal affair’.

The movement has also denounced two other gaffes by the director of national  broadcaster – one over the “blasphemous misrepresentation of Mary Magdalene” and “manipulation of images” after a previous demonstration.

Some 10,000 people reportedly signed a petition drafted by Affirmative Action petition – this was submitted to the MBC and the PMO.
