MBC claims action was taken against staff who censored Cardinal's message

The acting director of the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) Anooj Ramsurrun, has claimed the staff who censored the Christmas message of Cardinal Maurice Piat, has been reprimanded.

He was responding following a new demonstration by Affirmative Action in front of the MBC’s headquarters in Moka. However, he refrained from disclosing the nature of the reprimand, stating that it was an ‘internal affair’.

However, Affirmative Action representatives they do not intend to let go. They have urged the MBC to officially respond to their letter and that of the Diocese of Port Louis – both seeking explanations on the reasons behind the censorship and actions taken against the staff.

The Vicar General, Father Jean-Maurice Labour, had declared the deletion of a 179-word paragraph as being “an attack on religious freedom”.
