A newborn baby was found in a toilet waste bin aboard Air Mauritius flight MK 289 from Madagascar to Mauritius in the evening of January 1, 2022.

L’Express reported that the newborn, a boy, was discovered in the waste bin by Customs officers and the anti-drug squad of Plaine Magnien.

The baby was rushed to Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital – his health is now considered as stable.

Police were reportedly able to track down the mother – a 20-year-old Malagasy national, who works in a call center. She is currently admitted, under police surveillance, at Dr A.G.Jeetoo Hospital for treatment.

The young woman reportedly arrived in Mauritius with a two-year “work permit.”
