Oil imports put on hold by Government procurement arm

The State Trading Corporation (STC) has temporarily suspended the import of edible oil on the grounds that it is having a tough time negotiating a competitive price from Egyptian exporters who are already in partnership with local importers.

STC boss Rajiv Servansingh was quoted as telling Defi Media that the commodity will still be available through private importers.

STC is said to be currently negotiating with other countries, including Tanzania and Kenya.
