Top FM to operate for at least another year

Radio Station Top FM’s license has been renewed for one year by the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA), director Kris Kaunhye announced.

The decision comes as a relief after fears that the regulator would drop the axe with the recent voting of the controversial amendments to the IBA Act in Parliament.

The radio station has been very critical against the government over several scandals.

One such amendment brings down the duration of a radio license from 3 years to 1 year.

Top FM’s license was set to expire on Sunday, December 12, 2021.

Kris Kaunhye told Defi Media that he will nonetheless consult his lawyers on whether the one-year renewal is acceptable or not.
