Employees to get wage compensation of at least Rs400

The Minister of Finance, Renganaden Padayachy, has announced the quantum of wage compensation to all employees of the public and private sectors: Rs500 for those earning a monthly salary of Rs 13,000 and less, and Rs 400 for those earning more than Rs 13,000.

The announcement was made during the tripartite committee on wage compensation which met this Thursday, December 9.

The minister said the State will finance the payment of salary compensations for SMEs until June 2022 and for the tourism sector entities having benefited from the Wage Assistance Scheme.

“We’ll be by the side of both employers and employees. We need to work together to get of this situation. Each and everyone’s understanding is required,” he was quoted as saying in Le Mauricien.

The Finance Minister also announced that the subsidies granted by the government on more than a hundred basic food products are being extended until June 2022.
