Published

on

Dozens of firefighters tackled a major fire above Port Louis suburbs Cite Martial and Plaine Verte on Tuesday night.

Nearby residents were reportedly forced to close their windows due to the volume of smoke in the area.

A spokesperson of the Control Room of the Mauritius Fire and Rescue Service was quoted by Defi Media as saying that there was “no immediate threat to homes for the time being.”

However, the newspaper said a back-up team was in “stand-by” mode on the scene “to deal with any eventuality.”

The blaze is under investigation but is believed to have started accidentally.
