Private sector employees seek salary compensation

A salary compensation ranging from Rs700 to Rs1,000 is being demanded for private sector employees.

The amount is said to represent a fair figure to compensate for the loss in purchasing power over the past year.

Le Mauricien reported that the first round of tripartite meeting was held this Thursday.

This meeting brings together the Government, the private sector and trade unions.

Haniff Peerun of the Mauritius Labour Congress (MLC) has reportedly urged the Government not to  “fall in the trap” of Business Mauritius “on the thesis of capacity to pay.”
