Two Mauritian Ministers and five MPs tested positive for COVID-19

Finance Minister Renganaden Padayachy has reportedly been tested positive for COVID-19 on his return from the UK.

French daily newspaper L’Express reported that the minister is currently self-isolating, but doing well.

Public Utilities Minister Joe Lesjongard and three other Government MPs are also said to be positive and also in self-isolation. They are Private Parliamentary Secretaries Gilbert Bablee and Prakash Ramchurrun as well as MP Ashley Ittoo.

On the opposition side, MPs Patrice Armance and Khushal Lobine (PMSD) are reportedly also both in self-isolation.

Questions are also being raised on the absence of Speaker Sooroojdev Phokeer from the Parliament. “He was neither in Parliament nor in court to respond to Shakeel Mohamed’s constitutional complaint against him.”
