Mauritius could become a 'water scarce region' by 2030, report says

A report entitled “Intended Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) for the Republic of Mauritius” has claimed that the amount of rainfall for Mauritius has decreased by 7.7% over the last decade.

The data collected and used by the authorities for the report spanned over the 2011 to 2020 period. It has reportedly warned that Mauritius could ‘become a water scarce region by 2030,’
adding that ‘the effects of climate change will also reduce terrestrial and marine biodiversity.’

The report also alerted that extreme weather events and rising sea levels are also likely to affect infrastructure and tourism
