Cost of living: the worst is yet to come, experts warn

The constant and worrying rise in the cost of freight will “hurt people’s standard of living”, according to maritime experts.

And they do not expect any drop in prices soon.

“The worst is yet to come,” Alain Malherbe, Managing Director of Island Maritime Services was quoted as warning during a talk show on Radio Plus.

Currently, he says, the cost of freight for a 20-foot container from Asia is between $ 5,900 and $ 6,100. By January 2022, the price is expected to climb to $ 15,000.
