Utility bills defaulters up by 20%

The Central Water Authority (CWA) has registered an increasing number of subscribers being unable to pay their monthly bills.

According to the CWA, the figures show a 20% increase compared to 2020.

Almost 15% of subscribers of the Central Electricity Board (CEB) are also late in their monthly dues.

According to Suttyhudeo Tengur, President of the Association for the Protection of the Environment and Consumers, many of these subscribers have been financially hit due to loss of jobs and revenues. He added that the government must consider a moratorium.
