MT to partner with Liquid telecom for new cable system

Mauritius Telecom will partner with South African telecommunications company, Liquid Telecom for the installation of a T3 submarine cable system connecting South Africa to Mauritius with branching units to Madagascar and Reunion island.

The new submarine cable will reportedly be a “huge advantage” for Mauritius Telecom as it will enhance internet connectivity.

The South African landing of the cable will be at Amanzimtoti, KwaZulu-Natal on the east coast of South Africa and the Mauritian landing of the cable is expected to be at Bel-Ombre. The new cable will be expected to offer a 50-terabits-per-second connectivity.

The island is already connected to three submarine cables: the LION/LION 2, SAFE and METISS cables.
