MHC's new subsidiary to engage in renting and leasing business

The State-owned Mauritius Housing Company (MHC) Ltd will set up a wholly-owned subsidiary, MHC Properties Ltd, that will engage in renting and leasing activities.

The MHC holds a non-bank deposit taking licence from the Bank of Mauritius and such companies are not allowed to engage in such activities.

All immoveable properties such as land and buildings of MHC Ltd would be transferred to the subsidiary.

According to Cabinet papers, the MHC Properties Ltd will be called to manage, maintain and rent existing properties of MHC Ltd, promote property development in Mauritius and Africa; act as syndic for MHC projects; and engaged in “any activities directly or indirectly related to real estate development.”
