The Chairman of the Equal Opportunities Commission passes away

The Chairman of the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC), Mr Khalid Tegally, has passed away. He had been in office since May 2, 2016.

On October 1, 2020, he was reappointed to this post by the President of the Republic. Khalid Tegally was sworn in as lawyer in 1975 and was a member of Parliament (under the MMM) for Constituency No.2 (Port-Louis Sud / Port-Louis Central) from 1983 to 1987.

He then left politics and was appointed Senior District Magistrate from 1990 to 1992. He served as Principal State Counsel of the State Law Office from 1992 to 1994.

In 1994, he was appointed head of the Tax Appeal Tribunal. In 2004, he became the President of the Permanent Arbitration Tribunal.

He was appointed chairperson of the EOC in May 2016.
