A South African attorney has reportedly been arrested and charged with embezzlement of more than R1.4 million (Rs4million) in Mauritius may face similar criminal cases back at home.

The 47-year-old attorney (name retained) was reportedly arrested in Mauritius earlier in July. He appeared in the District Court of Port Louis on 15 July.

According to media reports, the attorney was charged with embezzlement to the tune of more than R1.4 million, after he “unlawfully and fraudulently” took the money which had been transferred to him by another South African living in Mauritius for legal work, which wasn’t done.
