Cardinal Maurice Piat, Bishop of Port-Louis in Mauritius since 1993, has just turned 80.

Pope Francis made him a Cardinal in November 2016.

Cardinal Piat welcomed Pope Francis when he visited Mauritius in September 2019. Cardinal Piat is also the President of the Episcopal Conference of the Indian Ocean.

According to RomeReports, the Cardinal is no longer eligible to vote in the next Conclave because of his age.

That means that of the 221 cardinals in the College of Cardinals, 123 are eligible to vote.
