Minister of National Infrastructure and Community Development Bobby Hurreeram has reportedly filed a complaint at the Central Criminal Investigation Department (CCID) against opposition MP Shakeel Mohamed following an incident in the lunch room of the National Assembly on June 17.

The story goes that Mohamed cracked a joked on the judgment of the Privy Council sentencing the State Trading Corporation to pay petrol carrier Betamax Rs 5.7 billion as compensation for breach of a ‘Contract of Affreightment’.

The Opposition MP is said to have carried a basket around the lunch room asking members of parliament to contribute towards the said amount.

The ‘joke’ was reportedly not to the taste of the Minister – which led to a violent clash between the two parliamentarians.

Shakeel Mohamed is currently out of the country.
