151 mobile phone subscriptions for every 100 inhabitants

In 2020, there were 151.1 mobile cellular phone subscriptions per 100 inhabitants in Mauritius, compared to 147.5per 100 inhabitants in 2019.

Figures just released by Statistics Mauritius reveal that number of internet subscriptions per 100 inhabitants soared from 118.2 in 2019 to 130.2 in 2020.

A lesser growth was noted on the number of fixed telephone lines per 100 inhabitants – it rose from 36.2 in 2019 to 37.8 in 2020.

In 2020, International Bandwidth usage increased to 144,973 Mbits/s (Megabits per second) from 101,657 Mbits/s in 2019. The usage per inhabitant went up by 42.5% to reach 114,510 bits per second from 80,331 in 2019.

Trade in ICT goods and services from 2019 to 2020 was as follows:

   •        Imports went down by 11.7% from Rs 15,354 million to Rs 13,554 million; and

   •        Exports, including re-exports, declined by 7.3% from Rs 6,040 million to Rs 5,602 million.

The value added of ICT sector went up by 4.2% in nominal terms from Rs 25,356 million in 2019 to Rs 26,432 million in 2020. Its share in GVA was 7.0%, higher than in 2019 (5.8%).

Employment in large establishments (employing 10 or more persons) operating in ICT sector went up by 0.4% in 2020, i.e. 16,865 compared to 16,800 in 2019.
