'Operational oil spill' at Port Louis, enquiry under way

The Mauritius Ports Authority (MPA) has opened an investigation into an “operational oil spill” observed in the port on Thursday in the Quay 1 region.

First indications show that a technical defect of a private operator was the cause of the incident.

The investigation will establish the exact circumstances of this incident and determine whether all emergency procedures were followed by the private operator.

The MPA said it deployed its “Emergency Plan” and the situation was “brought under control” with the help of the National Coast Guard and other stakeholders.
