Mauritius joins simultaneous regional operation ‘Thokgamo’

Seven countries of the Southern African Regional Chiefs Cooperation Organisation (SARPCC)) have just concluded a simultaneous operation codenamed ‘Thokgamo’.

The countries that participated in the operation are Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique and South Africa. 

In Mauritius, islandwide operations were carried out by the Central Criminal Iinvestigation Division in collaboration with Police Divisions, Units and Branches.

These involved Systematic Stop and Search Vehicles in terms of Auto/Moto checks at strategic locations; Targeting Drugs; Human Trafficking; Motor vehicle thefts; Illicit Proliferation of Small Arms and Lights Weapons.

Bottomline: A total of 4,170 vehicles were checked at strategic locations, 96 warrants were executed, 60 wanted people were arrested, 660 contraventions were established, 15 drug seizures (heroin, synthetic drugs, plants and cannabis seeds) of a total value of Rs 1,194,790.
