The three elected Members of Parliament from constituency number 8 (Moka / Quartier Militaire) appeared before the Supreme Court this Monday as part of the electoral petition lodged against them by Suren Dayal, a fallen candidate of the ex-National Alliance who is contesting the results of the 2019 general elections.

Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun, and former Minister of Commerce Yogida Sawmynaden arrived in the courtroom at 10:30 am, Defi Media reported.

The election petition is presided over by Judges David Chan Kan Cheong and Karuna Devi Gunesh-Balaghee.

At the outset, Mr Robin Ramburn, Senior Counsel and lawyer for Suren Dayal was reported as claiming that the Clerk of the National Assembly refused to accept summons to testify in Court.

The hearing was adjourned at 11.30 am at the request of Mr Raouf Gulbul, lawyer for the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation (MBC).
