Opticians to be regulated and their conduct 'controlled'

Opticians will soon be regulated under an Optical Council Bill that has been presented in Parliament by Health Minister Kailesh Jagutpal.

The Bill will establish an Optical Council of Mauritius with a view to “better regulating and controlling the professional conduct” of opticians, local and foreign.

The Council will be called to ensure that all registered opticians have the required qualifications. Another prerogative: take actions against opticians. The Council will be made up of opticians working in the public and private sectors.

The Council will also approve, conduct or cause to be conducted training programmes for opticians.
