New law on 'emerging technologies' voted

The Mauritius Emerging Technologies Council Bill was voted in Parliament, without amendment but under heavy criticisms, on Wednesday evening.

According to the Minister of Information, Communication and Innovation Technologies, Deepak Balgobin, this bill provides for the creation of the Mauritius Emerging Council of Technologies and aims to promote high-level research in the field of emerging technologies.

L’Express reported that opposition MPs Patrice Armance, Joanna Bérenger and Nando Bodha claimed the project could have been better prepared to avoid the waste of public funds.
