D-Day: Mauritius reopening

Published

on

It’s D-Day – the phase 3 of easing of confinement restrictions is now effective. Beaches, parks, attractions, fairs, sports halls, restaurants, gyms, among others, are finally reopening. This represents a much-anticipated step towards recovery for some economic operators, while for others, the inability to resume normal activities is extended.

Public and private gatherings are allowed but should not exceed 50 people. No restrictions on the movement of those under 18. However, they are strongly recommended to avoid public places such as gymnasiums and youth centers.

In restaurants, food courts and fast food outlets, a distance of 2 meters must be respected between the tables with appropriate ventilation.

In a public statement, the Port Louis Diocese invited parishioners to register with the parish office to attend one of the Sunday Masses. In order to allocate places, the first come first serve principle will be applied. “If there is no place available, the secretary will suggest another Mass,” the statement read. Until further notice, a maximum of 50 people will also be admitted to weddings and funerals. The same measures apply to the preparation and celebration of baptisms.

Similar registration processes are being imposed to those of Islamic faith in order to get access to Mosques.

The wearing of a mask and the physical distancing of one meter remain in force.
