Contract renewed, ICAC boss back in control

Despite calls from the Leader of the Opposition Xavier Duval, the contract of the Director General of the Independent Commission Against Corruption (Icac), Navin Beekarry has been renewed by the government.

Duval has contested the renewal of contract, claiming that the boss of the anti-graft commission is biased towards the Government.

In January 2019, Beekarry reportedly refused to support the appeal of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) against Pravind Jugnauth in the MedPoint case.

The Angus Road scandal, which is said to seriously embarrass Jugnauth, is no longer audible.

Coincidentally, no Question Time has been allowed in Parliament this Tuesday, June 29, “again because of presentation of the additional budget of Rs 23.6 billion for the financial year 2020/2021,” Le Mauricien reported.
