Deputy PM and Minister of Tourism Steven Obeegadoo blasted the opposition during the Budget 2021/2022 debates in Parliament, asking them to “abandon this Trumpist attitude” and “to stop seeing evil and corruption everywhere”

Defi Media cited him as saying that “we are in a state of war and are facing several challenges.”

Obeegadoo appealed to the population for a “surge of patriotism”, while congratulating PM Pravind Jugnauth for his “rigorous reaction.”

Obeegadoo’s speech were followed by those of Jugnauth and Finance Minister Renganaden Padayachy.

While also criticising the opposition, Jugnauth said “soaring public debt is a global trend.” Padayachy said economic recovery remains a priority.
