Sugar harvest kicks off

The 2021 sugar harvest campaign started this Monday at Alteo’s factory in Union Flacq. The sugar harvest is expected to end around the third week of December, Defi Media reported.

Last year, sugar cane production decreased by 23%, from 3,405,250 tonnes in 2019 to 2,620,874 tonnes in 2020.

Sugar production fell by 18.2%; it was 331,105 tonnes in 2019, against 270,875 tonnes in 2020.
