Lifting of confinement restrictions to be delayed?

The possibility of lifting of confinement restrictions (originally scheduled for June 1) seems bleak after four new local cases of COVID-19 were detected during the week-end.

Defi Media reported that a minimum of 14 days without positive cases of COVID-19 in the community are required for the next phase of easing of confinement restrictions to be considered. “However, the three cases detected on Sunday (and another one in the evening) have complicated things,” it said.

The last case to have been detected (during a routine PCR test) is said to be a member of the medical staff working with the Contact Tracing teams – and a resident of Bon Accueil.

Earlier on Sunday, three cases were detected in Arsenal and one in Vallée Pitot – both work in a house at Quatre Bornes. The employer was also tested positive.

Speaking to an unnamed source at the High Level Committee on COVID-19, Defi Media said the next phase of easing of confinement measures could now be postponed for the first week of June, “around June 6, if there are no new local cases.”
