Anger is brewing among trade unionists after police have accused them of having been part of an “illegal gathering” outside Government House in support to the Palestinian people.

Le Mauricien reported there were 10 protesters – as per guidelines of the Quarantine Act – and “all respecting social distancing and wearing their masks.”

The demonstration, led by trade unionist Reaz Chuttoo, also included Jane Ragoo, from the CTSP, Lindsey Collen, from Lalit, Raffick Bahadoor, president of the Taxi Proprietors Union, and Haniff Peerun from the Mauritius Labor Congress.

The Government’s “pro-Israeli” stand continues to face severe criticisms.

Earlier during the week, Foreign Affairs Minister Alan Ganoo said the Mauritian Government intends to maintain diplomatic relations with Israel.
