Corona SA & UK variants are here

Health Minister Kailesh Jagutpal has revealed in Parliament that two patients were detected positive for the UK variant of the coronavirus, while nine others were positive for the South African variant, l’Express reported.

Replying to a question from Labour MP Dr Farhad Aumeer, the Minister said 122 of 135 local samples showed the B.1.1.318, “a variant of interest detected on majority of cases” during its second wave of infections.

Some 236,379 samples of PCR RT tests and 160,315 Rapid Antigen tests have reportedly been effected in public health institutions on a monthly basis since March 2020 to 31 April 2021.
